Campaign for Campus Security

On Sunday, September 16th at approximately 9:30 p.m. an unidentified man fired a rifle in the air within 100 yards of the Alpha Tau Omega chapter house while brothers were leaving their weekly meeting. Many of the brothers heard the gunshot, while several others actually saw the man with the firearm. Brothers raced back into the house and phoned Public Safety. An officer arrived at the house minutes later. After taking one lap around the block the officer spoke with brothers who witnessed the event. The officer then drove back to Public Safety.
The next day a member of ATO informed Student Life of the events only to learn university administration had not been made aware of the incident. A formal report of the incident was not filed until five business days after the shot took place and after several concerned parents and alumni pressed the issue. Throughout the following weeks the university has taken no action to ensure the safety of its students and offered no answers as to what they will do in the future. The only response students have received from the university is that plans are being made to move Greek row to a new location, but they will not be possible for 15 to 20 years. The university has denied the Theta Eta Chapter's request to move to another location on campus. If the university is unable to secure the chapter's current location or allow the chapter to move, action needs to be taken.
The brothers of the Theta Eta Chapter are asking for your support for an increase in campus security, particularly in the area of Greek row. If you would like to support their campaign please click on one of the letters below, print it, sign it, and mail it to the Office of Student Life, UNA Box 5033, Florence, AL 35632.
If you have any questions regarding this situation or would like to voice your opinion on the matter, feel free to contact our chapter president Tyler Mills at (256) 338-0360 or by e-mail at gtylermills@gmail.com

Theta Eta will wrap up the week with a Brother/Pledge Auction to raise money for the chapter. The chapter has also arranged a deal with Grand Rental Station for a 10% discount on all their costumes if you rent from them throughout the week. T-shirt orders will be taken until Wednesday night. They will be gray long-sleeve tees and have the Valhalla flyer (right) on the back.
